Year 2 - Swifts

Autumn 2023

This term the children will be travelling on a seaside adventure. Our story book is 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'. We will be learning all about the seaside, sea creatures and even Punch and Judy! On the theme of lighthouses, we will also be learning all about Grace Darling a famous figure from the past who lived in a lighthouse. Our science will be focused on materials this term and we will have lots of fun experimenting with them, particularly using ice in a few lessons! 

Summer 2023

Summer is just around the corner and we are looking forward to our new story book in Year 2. This term, we will be looking at Bog Baby. This is a story all about an unusual creature found in a pond. It links in perfectly with all of our Science this term as we will be learning all about animals, habitats and lifecycles. We will spend lots of times outdoors as part of this topic, studying minibeasts and microhabitats. Who knows, we might even find our own bog baby! Another reason to get outside will be our Art lessons, where we will be learning all about nature art and sketching. This term will also be exciting as we will sew our own puppets as part of our work in Design and Technology. In Geography we will learn all about islands and in History we will learn all about the plague in Eyam.

Spring 2023

In Spring term, Year 2 go on an adventure to China! Our storybook is ‘The Magic Paintbrush’ by Julia Donaldson. We learn all about Chinese New Year and Chinese dragons. Keeping on the theme of fire, we also look at The Great Fire of London.
